But not just in Ditchingham. The increased traffic for example will impact the entire B1332, for example through Hedenham, Brooke, Poringland and down to the A47 Norwich Southern bypass.

Through our campaign ENRAGED learnt that Lafarge’s potential plans were considerably more significant with the option granted to Lafarge in February 2001 encompassing not only the field to the east of Fen Lane but also the fields to the west between it and Hedenham, comprising a total of 57Ha with further sites adjacent to and behind the Ditchingham cemetery and another within the park at Hedenham. ENRAGED's campaign has seen the options surrendered on the land to the west of Fen Lane and at Ditchingham Cemetery but the options remain on the other two sites and while we believe that for the time being at least the campaign has achieved its objectives the threat of the quarry remains. ENRAGED's campaign remains active to ensure any future application (which could be made at any time) will be defeated. Click the picture for large map (PDF 422K) |
Subsequent to their press release and the public exhibition in Bungay, Lafarge say they have revised the scheme. But ENRAGED believe this is just tactics... there are many instances where, after an initial application for a scheme is successful (albeit reduced), that subsequent applications have significantly extended the scope (eg extended working hours or tonnage, new plant or processing).
ENRAGED’s view is that this scheme must not be deferred, for example, because land bank reserves are adequate at the current time, or for some other reason. But that the scheme must be totally rejected and not allowed to proceed in any shape or form. Now or in the future!
